QUESTION

Think back to the beginning of our class. How have your ideas about discipline guidance changed since the first class?

Think back to the beginning of our class. How have your ideas about discipline & guidance changed since the first class? What do you better understand now about social & emotional development in young children?

If you had to describe your fundamental beliefs about how adults can best help guide the behavior of young children, what would you say?

For this assignment, come up with 4-5 personal belief statements that clearly identify the most important things you have learned about guiding the behavior of young children. Put each belief statement in BOLD/CAPITALletters, followed by a brief explanation of your belief in more detail.

TIPS: Your philosophy of guidance should reflect your own attitudes and teaching style. In your explanations, include some specific examples of how you have or will apply your philosophy of guidance. You might include examples related to students talking during a story, refusing to share, or using hurtful words, as these are common behavior issues. If you don't have teaching experience, you should mention other examples in your life during which you have been able to successfully guide behavior (i.e. parenting/babysitting). You might also use quotes and or information from our textbook, VA milestones and/or class to reference information you feel is particularly important to remember.

Examples of possible sentence starters for your belief statements:

• A teacher's role in classroom guidance is.....

• I believe teachers need.....

• I believe young children need....

• I believe effective guidance for young children involves....

• I believe adult caregivers need to.....
