This is my social responsibility topic outline discussion post. 

1. Define Social Responsibility

For an individual, social responsibility is the idea that people have an ethical responsibility to consider how their choices and actions affect other people and society. This includes contributing to the well-being of others, respecting people, and making choices that benefit the larger community. The National Association of Social Workers describes responsibility to society as promoting the general welfare of society and helping create conditions where people's basic needs can be met.

2. Paraphrase the Definition

In my own words, social responsibility means realizing that my actions do not only affect me. I have a responsibility to think about how the decisions I make may affect my family, other people, my community, and even future generations. It means doing my part to help others, treating people fairly and respectfully, and making choices that can have a positive impact on society.

1.It can provide people with needed support while creating a stronger and more caring community. It may also encourage others to help.

2. It can build healthier relationships, reduce conflict, and create an environment where people feel respected and included.

3. It helps keep communities cleaner, reduces unnecessary waste, and protects natural resources for people in the future.

Connection to Social Responsibility

1.Volunteering is socially responsible because I am using my time and abilities to help someone other than myself

2.Being socially responsible includes recognizing that my words and actions affect other people. Treating people fairly is one way I can positively contribute to society.

3. Environmental responsibility shows that I am considering how my choices today can affect other people and the world they will live in tomorrow.

Connection to Me

1. Helping others is important to me. I want my children to see the importance of helping people and giving back when we are able to.

2. I interact with many different people in my everyday life. I also want to set a good example for my children by showing them that everyone deserves to be treated with respect.

3. I can do simple things such as not littering, recycling when possible, and teaching my children to clean up after themselves and respect the environment.

Finding Sources To-Do Date: Sep 4 at 11:59pm

In order to write a good paper, you will first need to find sources and summarize all the important information.  Follow the steps below to complete this section. This is not an assignment. It is a helpful guide for finding and organizing information from sources.

Step 1:  Research your topic.  

• You will need to use at least 3 sources (in addition to your definition of Social Responsibility) in your Research Paper.
• Try finding sources about your example, not just social responsibility in general.
• At least 2 of those sources should be from the TJC Library databases.  The third source (or more) may be from any credible source.
• There are two ways to access TJC Library resources.

  • I recommend two databases to begin your search: 1) SIRS Issues Researcher (may appear as SIRS Knowledge Source) : ProQuest :: SIRS Issues Researcher ~ Home
  • 2) Credo Reference: Credo Reference Homepage
  • Be sure you are searching for "Full Text" articles.  You can narrow your search by the type of source you want or date range.  When you find articles you want to use, click on the cite tool and select APA.  The database will generate a citation for you!  If you need help, contact the Tutoring Center, your professor, or our friendly library staff who are available via chat from the library web page!

Step 2:  Taking good notes is important for writing a good paper. For each source, complete the Annotated Bibliography Worksheet.  Again, this is not an assignment. It is a guide for taking good notes and keeping track of your sources

• Complete Annotated Bibliography Worksheet with 1 source per page.
• All responses should be in APA 7th edition format.
• Remember do not quote the source.  Write it in your own words.
• This is not an evaluation of the source.  Write what you learned from reading this source.
• Here is an example of a completed Annotated Bibliography Worksheet.

Rough Draft 

• Due Tuesday by 11:59pm
• Points 1
• Submitting a file upload

You must submit a rough draft of your paper before moving on to the Research Paper final draft that counts as 20% of your overall grade. On the rough draft, I am only checking the content of your paper for AI. I am not looking at spelling, grammar, writing style, or formatting. Outline format is acceptable as long as you have enough detail for me to tell that you have developed your ideas for the paper.

If your rough draft is flagged for AI, you will not be able to submit the final draft until you have resolved the problem. You will not receive an extended due date for the final draft if you have to re-do the rough draft. In order to avoid AI detection on your rough draft, I recommend not using any type of editing tools such as Grammarly, Co-Pilot, QuilBot, etc. If your preferred word processing program has predictive type, be sure to turn that off. Do not run it through an AI detection program before you submit. All of these things can cause your paper to flag for AI and delay your progress in class.

Here is a recommended outline for your paper. Instructions about formatting and referencing sources will be given on the Research Paper final draft assignment page.

  • Introduction - 1-2 paragraphs.
    • Define social responsibility, and cite the source.
    • Provide an example(s) of social responsibility.
    • Explain how the example(s) relates to the definition of social responsibility you selected to use.
      • Refer back to the Social Responsibility Topic Outline assignment You may use 1st person here.

  • Body - 3-5 paragraphs (more if you want).
    •  
      • Focus on your example(s).
      • Cite the sources you found about your example(s).
      • Use the Annotated Bibliography Worksheet as notes to help you write your body paragraphs.
      • There should be no 1st person voice in this section.
      • This is where you report what the experts have to say about social responsibility and your example.
      • Remember, this is not a persuasive essay.
      • You are writing what you learned from each source.
      • Paraphrase all your sources.  Do not include any direct quotes.
      • Cite sources for everything you include in the body paragraphs.
  • Conclusion - 1 paragraph.
    • Restate your example of social responsibility.
    • Explain why it is important to you.
    • What is your role in addressing social responsibility?
      • Refer back to the Social Responsibility Topic Discussion.
      • You do not need to cite sources in your conclusion.
      • You may use 1st person here again.
