As we continue our study of Western Civilization, this is where we will begin to see the real break between Eastern and Western thinking (at least in this course). If you have an opportunity to study the Far East and India, you'll be able to do further comparisons, but for now, take note of the differences in religious beliefs and practices (particularly between the Islamic East and the Christian West), and note how Constantinople played a key role in keeping the Latin West isolated from the rise of Islam on their borders.
