Eakins was from Philadelphia, one of the major cities of early America. Needless to say the Philadelphia Museum of Art is proud to host the collection of Eakins’ works.

Read the museum’s  description of the artwork. Then using their search tool, find another Eakins painting entitled Between Rounds.

Based on what we studied in Gross Clinic, perform a formal analysis on  Between Rounds. (Minimum 300 words)

1. Discuss how  Eakins creates a dramatic scene.
2. Discuss the realism aspects of the paintings. How does the great interest in science at the time affect Eakins' works? Include the dimensions of both works.  Discuss also what the size is doing for the works.

(A formal analysis means that you are taking apart what the artwork looks like and understanding why the artist made such visual choices).
