Two Essays

First Essay:

A)   What is the relationship between religion and poverty in Philadelphia? In your view, it what way(s) has this relationship been different for African American communities and immigrant communities over the last fifty years in the city, and why? In articulating your response, please draw upon concrete examples from any four articles or book chapters that we have read during the second half of the semester.

Second Essay:

B)   In terms of its religious culture, how has North Philadelphia changed over the last 50 years? What are the three main social forces or factors that explain the major changes in Philadelphia’s religious landscape during this period of time? In stating your case, please discuss the growth and diversity of Buddhism and Islam in the City of Brotherly Love and expound upon what religion in Philadelphia might look like in 50 years.
