compare and contrast the data communication technologies of guided media and unguided media .this should include transmission media ,data link protocols and multiplexing.
Transmission media
Is a pathway through which individual systems are connected to route data signals in a network.it makes it possible to transmit electronic signals from one computer to another, in a form of binary pulses. Each type of transmission is varies in its charateristics , that makes it suitable for periodic type of service.
Guided transmission
consists of physical connection between source and destination via wire or a cable , these connections are bounded to a channel to follow. the three common types are-
Twisted pair cable
co-axial cable
fiber -optic cable
Unguided transmission media
In this one no connection between source and destination , instead they use air itself these connections are bounded to a channel to follow .there are two types .
microwaves
Travels in straight lines therefore narrowly focused concentrating all the energy to the beam.
periodic repeaters are necessary for long distances.
For receiving and receiving the antennas should be aligned accurately
cannot penetrate through buildings
Best example is blue tooth technology
Satellite:
Uses micro wave radio to prevent from atmosphere and to act as microwave relay station .
capable of receiving , relaying of voice, data and TV signals
bad weather can affect the communication
Data link control protocols
Is a group of protocols or rules for transmitting data between network points. Its one of the most used of many protocols .Data link control helps with the flow and error control of transmission.
Multiplexing
It aides in achieving transmission efficiency. its a technique by which different different analog and digital streams of transmission can be simultaneously processed over a shared link.It divides the high capacity medium into low capacity logical medium which then shared by different streams.
Compare digital transmission to analog transmission to determine the advantages of digital transmission.
Analog transmission is a method of conveying voice ,data , image ,signal or video information. it uses a continuous signal varying in amplitude , phase or another property that is in proportion to a specific characteristics of a variable.
Data Transmission also known as digital transmission or digital communication is a literal transfer of data over a point to point .transmission medium such as copper wires ,optical fibres , wireless communication media , or storage media.digital transmission transfers messages discretely. These message are represented by a sequence of pulses via a line code. one advantage of digital transmission is that in case of noise its less likely to be affected because the response is analog in nature another advantage is that digital hardware is flexible in implementation. a good example is a computer or keyboard in this case data that is transmitted via digital transmission may be digital messages that have origins of the data source.
