Choose the following in My Lab: MUltimedia Library, Chapter 5, All sections, video and emanipulatives.

You may also search the internet for manipulatives for teaching integers. This is grades 6-8!

Here is a sample site: http://nlvm.usu.edu/ Links to an external site.

Choose one of the manipulatives and discuss with the class how you would use this manipulative to teach integer operations.   Present the class with a problem to solve at the end.  You must solve using the manipulative.

I started with division and the manipulative "Tiles".  There are four operations and four different manipulatives so each of you MUST do a different operation/manipulative combination so no two people are demonstrating the same thing.

Your Second post should answer a problem posed by another student using a manipulative approach.

a. Each student should choose a different manipulative to demonstrate. NO REPEATS ALLOWED

b. Choose one of the four basic operations. (add, subtract, multiply, or divide)

c. Explain your method and how you would use it in the classroom to teach for understanding.

d. Include the grade level. and  The NCTM Standard.

In addition to knowing students as learners, mathematics teacher candidates should

develop knowledge of and ability to use and evaluate instructional strategies and

classroom organizational models, ways to represent mathematical concepts and

procedures, instructional materials and resources, ways to promote discourse, and means

of assessing student understanding. This section on pedagogy is to address this

knowledge and skill."
