Another popular contemporary leadership concept is called servant leadership. Thisterm isused to describe leaders who choose first to serve others and then to be a leader. They choose to make sure that other people's highest-priority needs are being served in a way that promotes personal growth and helps others become freer and more autonomous. When applied to health care, servant leadership is an attractive alternative to the traditional bureaucratic environment experienced by nurses. The servant leadership model draws attention to the necessity for leaders to be attentive to the needs of others and is a model that enhances the personal growth of nurses, improves the quality of care, values teamwork, and promotes personal involvement and caring behavior (Huber, 2010). Servant leadership is a philosophy and set of practices that enriches the lives of individuals, builds better organizations and ultimately creates a more just and caring world. Companies that are adopting the servant model leadership are: hospitals, retailers, and food chain companies. Here are the main reasons why these companies are adopting this model. Organizational effectiveness is high. 2. Servant leadership pumps up the team with confidence, which leads to high-performance. Servant leadership leads to more helping and creative employees. 4. Greater job satisfaction. Providing an atmosphere of teamwork is essential to servant leadership. It is about good business ethics and doing good work on behalf of your employees. When everyone feels as though they are an important part of the process, creativity and productivity increase. When people feel valued, they value what they do, and they will produce better work. Servant leadership fosters an atmosphere of trust. When people know that you care about them, they will trust you because they know you have their best interest at heart, even when dealing with a problem (Miller & Schmincke, 2016).
