This is a big picture view. Use data and depictions as appropriate. What is the Avoid-Shift-Improve Framework?

The Avoid-Shift-Improve (A-S-I) framework is a structured approach to reducing the environmental impact of transportation and logistics. It focuses on avoiding unnecessary transport, shifting to more sustainable modes, and improving the efficiency of existing systems. The A-S-I framework supports the transition towards solutions such as cleaner energy, sustainable cities, climate action and low-carbon mobility.

The A-S-I framework emphasizes reducing the need for travel as a primary step, which can be achieved through urban planning and policies that minimize travel distances (X-city) and promote telecommuting. For example, shifting travel from private cars to more sustainable modes such as public transit, cycling, and walking.
