QUESTION

What are some good Bible verses for a someone who is confused about what path to take in life?

A few thoughts...

Presuming to speak on behalf of most people who do read the Bible, I would say that we all have our favourite Bible verses.

Personally I am wary of taking verses out of context as is often done to the detriment of understanding.

##color(white)()## What about specific direction? Where in the Bible should we look?

##color(white)()##The Torah

The first five books of the Bible are called the Torah (החוק), often translated "Law", but this English word does not capture the full sense which includes "Instruction", or even "Guidance", pointing the direction that you should go.

The Torah provides a solid footing, but is often difficult to digest. There are some particularly special events in it, such as God revealing the meaning of his name and thus his very nature to Moses (and us) in Exodus 34:6-7. Once you have seen it, it is hard to miss the re-iteration of God's nature as gracious and merciful throughout much of scripture.

##color(white)()##Proverbs

Proverbs are intended to convey life giving wisdom, as strongly indicated by Proverbs 4:20-27...

My child, pay attention to my words; ##" "## listen attentively to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your sight, ##" "## guard them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them ##" "## and healing to one's entire body. Guard your heart with all vigilance, ##" "## for from it are the sources of life. Remove perverse speech from your mouth; ##" "## keep devious talk from your lips. Let your eyes look directly in front of you ##" "## and let your gaze look straight before you. Make the path for your feet level, ##" "## so that all your ways may be established. Do not turn to the right or to the left; ##" "## turn yourself away from evil.

Jesus's example

Philippians 2:5-11

You should have the same attitude toward one another that Christ Jesus had, who though he existed in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, by looking like other men, and by sharing human nature.

He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross! As a result God exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow - in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess to the glory of God the Father that Jesus Christ is Lord.
