What can we learn from Hitler and Stalin?

What can we learn from Hitler and Stalin? They did horrible things in their own countries and caused international conflict on an unprecedented scale (and we are not through with Stalin yet). Can such a leader emerge in our time, or have we learned some lessons from these guys?
