What happens to a chromosome during cell division?
It depends on the phase of cell cycle
The various stages of chromosomes during the cell division are :- 1. Interphase - During interphase of cell cycle , chromosomes are not visible due to high content of water in the nucleus. 2. Prophase - Condensation of chromatin starts from here , due to which chromosomes start appearing. 3. Metaphase - During the metaphase , chromosomes with two chromatids are completely visible. This is the best stage for studying morphology of chromosomes.During metaphase all the chromosomes align themselves along an imaginary plane at the center called Metaphasic Plate. 4. Anaphase - During anaphase , the chromatids of chromosomes get separated , so now each chromosomes have a single chromatid. 5. Telophase - During this phase , decondensation of chromosomes occur and it forms chromatin.
