What is a caldera? How are they formed?

Caldera is a depression formed as a by-product of volcanic eruption.

As magma gets spewed out, the mouth of volcano collapses over itself forming a steep, bowl-shaped depression. The depression us usually filled with water thus forming a caldera lake.
