What is a lagoon and how does longshore drift cause the formation of lagoons?
Lagoon is the shallow water, low energy environment, separated by a barrier island or a reef from the open sea. Long shore drift current winnows down the sand, builds a barrier island parallel to the coast thus creates a shallow water lagoon which is not prone the open sea conditions.
