What is the definition of population density?

The number of individuals within a certain area.

Population density refers to the total number of individuals within a particular area. It is calculated by taking the total number of individuals and dividing it by the area.

If there are two nature reserves of the exact same size, and one reserve has twenty elephants and the other reserve has one hundred and fifty elephants, the first reserve has a lower population density than the second.

In the map below, we can see that population density is generally greater along coastal regions than it is in the center of the continent.
