What is the difference between pathetic fallacy, personification and anthropomorphism?
See below.
Pathetic fallacy is when nonhuman things are given human- or life-like characteristics.
Ex: The gray clouds hung somberly in the deadened sky.
Personification is when nonhuman things behave as or have the same characteristics as humans IN ORDER TO create imagery.
Ex: The sparrows chattered idly in the field. The wind howled.
Anthropomorphism is assigning human-like traits to things that are not. It is actually a type of personification; here, however, it is used to actually make the non-humans behave as humans do.
Ex: Greek mythology, furries, Aesop's fables, Pinocchio
