QUESTION

What is the function of a fruit?

The seeds of a flowering plant are surrounded by a tissue called fruit, which may be fleshy or dry.

The functions of the fruit is to protect the seed inside and aid in its dispersal.

Some fruits harden to make accessing the seed difficult. Many fruits promote wind dispersal . Some fruits have hooks or spurs, which cling to the skin and fur of animals and are dispersed to far away places. Fruits like pods rip open forcefully when dry , flinging the seeds away. Fleshy coloured fruits attract birds and animals and are eaten by them. They pass unharmed through the digestive tract and are thus dispersed away from the parent plant.
