is made up of phospholipid bilayer The Red portion is the Phospholipid Head which allows water soluble substances to pass through it and the Tail portion is impermeable to water, thus it wont allow the Hydrophilic substances to pass through it. The presence of Phospholipid bilayer in the plasma membrane makes it selectively permeable.
