After researching the APUS Digital Commons site, I could not find any student paper nor faculty paper that related specifically to my Transportation and Logistics Management degree. Therefore, I found one paper that related toward my thesis and a section within my paper; that is "wildlife vehicle collisions."

Title:

Wildlife Vehicle Collisions Improved Information to Monito and Mitigate Collison Risks and Enhance Conservation Management

Recommended citation:

Clark, Laura Lee, "Wildlife Vehicle Collisions Improved Information to Monitor and Mitigate

Risks and Enhance Conservation Management" (2015). Master's Capstone Theses. Paper 28.

  • After reading through this student paper I found that all of the six standard features of academic writing were present. This is actually the first time I looked at a Master's Capstone Theses. I didn't realize how much was involved including the use of evidence that are shown in tables, graphs, and images. Seeing this data alongside the literature review and discussions really helped me understand the analysis. Additionally, I can clearly see the author's voice of authority. Reading through some of the excerpts I really felt like the writer knew what she was talking about, almost as if she was the one that collected the data. The data in this specific paper is very crucial. Without this data, the problem of wildlife vehicle collisions could not be addressed. I never applied this feature in paper and I feel this could benefit me in this class and beyond.

The next paper I chose to select is not related to my major nor my topic. This is a faculty publication that stood out to me because this is something that I often discuss with other students and have commented on during my end of course surveys.

Forum Quality or Quantity: What is Driving Student Engagement Online?

Student Engagement Online?" (2017). School of Business. 14. https://digitalcommons.apus.edu/facultySBus/14

  • This paper also emphasized evidence very well; there were two tables for viewing and ten figures. The writers clearly stated their objective and plan for the paper. I had trouble determining if the writers acknowledged that others might disagree with the position they've taken. Could this be because it is a faculty paper? It could have also been the specific tone taken by the authors. I found it interesting that my degree, Transportation and Logistics Management was near the top percentage for the mean quality score of forum prompt, mainly at the 500/600 level courses. For this paper, I have learned that it is important to attempt including all standard features of academic writing in your paper.
