While we typically listen to and even follow the voices of the mainstream, it’s often difficult to hear the voices of those living on the margins – even in a post-modern world.  They live in the shadows and are frequently ignored and forgotten.  Your journey through American literature has encompassed the voices of people from the margins.  Your job now is to use their voices as advice to someone currently living on the margins in this country.   Write an essay that explains your advice to someone currently living on the margins in this country. You must use at least three quotes in your essay – representing at least 3 different time periods.  Lastly, you must use at least 3 different “isms” covered in class this term.  No other sources allowed in the essay beyond direct quotes from literature or the authors covered in class.  Grammar, mechanics, organization and formatting are important factors in the grade.
