Why are religious images popular and resonate in our culture? Or more basically, why do Americans generally resonate with religious imagery?

This question is inspired by having to relate any image of either art or fashion that contains religious imagery. The class is Religion and Popular Culture and the topic of this specific module is art and fashion.

Any reasons why religious images are popular and resonate in our (American) culture are helpful! I'm stuck and can't think of more than 1 reason.
