Why do you think it is useful to use the California Q set rating system rather than having people rate each item individually on a 9-point scale?

Why do you think it is useful to use the California Q set rating system rather than having people rate each item individually on a 9-point scale? Do you think it would be easy to assess someone you have known for several years using this approach? What about someone you have just met?
