CLASSMATE’S POST

I am so glad we have this segment on communication, the single most important component of any project, meeting or strategic plan. I agree with the podcast, that all the brilliant planning and preparations that the smartest and most talented people in the world can come up with is useless unless that information can be successfully passed on to the people involved in implementing the plans. Communication is a two-way street. You have the person communicating the message and you must have someone receive the message and understand it.

I agree that books and other forms of material transfer is very helpful in learning how to communicate effectively with people. I, personally, was a huge fan of Zig Ziglar. In my opinion, he was one of the best speakers on communication, goal setting and motivation. The message must be delivered in a clear and concise manner and it should be done in a way that excites and interests the receiver. It is also important to get feedback from the receiver to establish that the message has been received correctly. The sender may have to ask questions of the receiver or ask them to repeat the message back to them but a clear understanding that the message has been received is most important. The message should also be as specific as possible. The receiver should not be put in the position of having to assume or interpret any parts of the message. Effective communication can be learned but it is also a God-given talent..0
