Nature and nurture work together in prenatal development. Nature explains the inheritance of physical and mental skills while nurture explicates the role of the environment in developing the inherited genes. The relationship between nature and nurture can also be applied in infancy complications. Problems such as early child obesity has a nature concept which perpetuates that eating behaviuors can be driven by genetic components render individuals vulnerable to food cues in the environment, a character that result to obesity. Nature on the other hand views obesity early child obesity as a resultant effect of modern living rather than a genetic process.

Physical development in infants starts at the head then moves to other parts of the body. An infant begins by sucking before sitting and walking (Benson & Haith, 2010). Childhood development occurs at a slow and steady pace compared to infancy development which is extremely fast. At this point, the child begins to gain weight and height much slower than in the infancy stage. Cognitive development is another form of growth that goes in conjunction with the physical development. In infancy cognitive development, information is acquired through the intense sensitivity in all the five sense (Benson & Haith, 2010). The information is then transferred to the cognitive system for processing. Cognitive development in childhood is quite different for the infancy one as it involves the development of a child’s information processing, language learning, perceptual skills and conceptualization of resources. In this case, children are able to understand and react rather than using the cognitive senses only to react to information.
