People in China speak Chinese language. Although English is an international language and is spoken and understood by a large population in many non-English countries, yet people in China generally stick to their mother tongue as long as they can. Children from rural areas in China do not have access to very good quality education.
Schools do not meet the needs of the growing population in rural areas in China, and people look forward to alternate opportunities of education for their children like this. It was a great honor and privilege for me to be able to help my people using a skill that I had.
Teaching English to rural children in China was challenging for two main reasons. first, children from rural areas were raised in an environment where English was totally new to them, and second, I had to finish my training within the limited time period of the summer break. To achieve my goal within that time frame, I made a plan. I searched for different ways in which I could teach the children English. Some of my options were. teaching in person, and guiding them to and through Youtube tutorials. I decided to start over with the first option and introduce them to the second near the end so that they would be able to self-study after I am gone. I made a schedule in which I divided my lessons in such a way that the whole course would be covered within two and a half weeks, starting from late November and ending in early December. I made such a schedule in which children would have breaks at least twice a weak so that they found it easy to comprehend and learn English.
Since November and December are very cold in China, I planned the lectures in my uncle’s home in the village as it was air conditioned and provided a comfortable environment for learning.
