Write 3 page essay on the topic Popular culture used by Joan Didion, Samuel Ichize Hayakawa and Fisher.

In another text by Samuel Ichize Hayakawa, sex is not a spectator sport, the use of rhetoric is apparent. The author achieves the use of rhetoric by employing logic. By showing the distinction between sex and pornography, he argues that the former loses its human meaning when an outside observer is introduced, therefore becoming obscene and pornographic. By use of logic he first posits that sex in private has its significance to those involved in the act. He argues that to a peeping tom, that significance is lost and in its place, only the mechanics of lovemaking are apparent. So it follows, he argues, that introduction of an observer is what makes sex obscene or pornographic. Rhetoric is also employed in another popular culture item – The Generation of Generation Q, by Rob Fishman. Rhetoric is brought out by use of allusions. By alluding to how OJ Simpson was exonerated from a murder charge on the grounds of a D.N.A test, Fishman shows how modern technology has made the young generation to be complacent. The three writers, Didion, Hayakawa and Fisher are out to raise awareness on issues in society. Didion raises the issue of how the Las Vegas wedding industry has undermined the sanctity of marriage. Hayakawa, on the other hand, defends sexual activities by distinguishing them from pornography and obscenity. He defends sexual activity by stating that they should remain private to keep their human significance. Fishman points out that technology has made the youth to be silent and more complacent.
