Write 3 page essay on the topic Social Networking Sites.
Social Networks have changed the arena of relationships too in these years. This essay would analyze these relationships in the context of the social networking sites (Warner 2008). Internet proved to be the missing link between different relationships because a person tends to spend much of his time on these social networking websites rather than spending the time with his family. The time which has been left out creates a difference in relationships that were existent since we were born. Apart from this, these websites are responsible for connecting people of different countries, belonging to different class and most importantly people belonging to different religions. They have played an important role in eradicating most of the misunderstandings that prevailed previously in the minds of people, for example, culture of different countries and religious misunderstandings (University of Minnesota 2008). Another important aspect worth mentioning is the benefit of understanding different people and their views about different topics. This promotes a healthy relationship among two people who originally do not know each other but are able to convey each other’s views by the use of chatting as provided by these social networking sites. Also it has created a new trend of “analyzing” a person you do not know a lot about and want to make a relationship with him or her without having to face the hardships and problems of a face-to-face meeting which most of the time does not reveal even 1% about the person in front of you. By chatting and sharing some views on a Social Networking Site, one can predict or at least evaluate the personality of that person and check his or her compatibility with his or her own (Russell 2012). Social networking sites have also impressed a great number of conservative people that used to think that this “Facebook trend” or “Twitter trend” will seriously endanger the personal and social life of man, but through these websites, people have become more social than ever. A person who uses these websites is always on the go and wants to keep his family and friends updated about his daily life which was absent before these websites had come into existence. It has helped people to get across with each other easily after meeting at different arenas (Russell 2012). But with all its positive aspects, it does have some negative faces as well. Like meeting people on the social networking sites is much easier and easily approachable as well. The people try to present themselves what they are not and most of the information provided in their profiles is bogus and exaggerated. This type of exposure encourages lies and deception promoting the personal benefits of an individual. Moreover, the younger generation is also being affected by these Social Networking websites as they spend a lot of time posting, scrapping and twitting on these sites which hugely affects their attitude towards studies and they keep their social networking life on preference to their student life. But surely, this can be easily avoided if the parents are active in keeping their children confined to a time schedule which would lead to a balance between their studies and social networking life.
