Write a 2 pages paper on bus assignment 4. BUS Assignment #4 BUS Assignment #4 discussion Topic A Managers are justified in monitoring employees as long as they do not intrude the basic rights of the individual and as long as they consider the individually held moral standards. “Monitoring should only be done as a check and balance measure to ensure high ethical standards. Respect to employee’s privacy, within reason, needs to be a consideration” (Mujtaba, n.d.). Management must also realize that monitoring might also be counterproductive because it causes resentment among employees since they will have the feeling that management does not trust them. I think that managers should alert workers about employee monitoring. The employees need to understand why they are being monitored. They should be aware of the company’s policies and Business Code of Conduct so that they know that the monitoring is within the guidelines of the law. If I were the owner of the company, I will still have the same opinions regarding monitoring of employees. Some form of restraint should still be observed. “As with most ethical issues, the governing concern should be mutual respect and mutual accountability” (Mujtaba, n.d.). Class discussion 1: Topic B I believe that the degree of variation in the range of earnings across various jobs in our economy is justified because a salary of a person is a product of several factors which I believe he has worked for. These factors include his education, training, experience and luck. No one has a right to question these because I think whatever one is earning now is the result of hard work, something which one has strived for. As an example, I am sure that before Kobe Bryant reached his current rate, he had to undergo a lot of training and sacrifices. It was not an easy path at all so everything he has now, he definitely deserves it. A janitor will have to work hours just to earn $1,000 but it may be commensurate with what he does, unlike a CEO who has more pressure on the job and most probably worked hard for a higher educational attainment to achieve whatever he has now. I believe that the progressive income tax approach is fair because the wealthier members of society bear more of the overall tax burden than the poorer citizens. It is equitable to all citizens because those who can afford to pay more taxes do, and those who are poor can spend more of their wages on essentials rather than on taxes (Melville, n.d.). It also protects the people during recession because they pay less tax if their income drops. Class discussion 2: Topic A I do not think that I should warn my co-worker about her being fired. First of all, it is not right that I read the email of my boss because that is unethical. If I inform my co-worker, then my boss will eventually find out that I read his email. He will then perceive me as someone who cannot be trusted. Furthermore, I am not even sure if the email is final already. The proper attitude is not to pre-empt my boss regarding his plans. He is the only one who has the right to inform my co-worker. Class discussion 2: Topic B If I were a major shareholder of a corporation, the Board of Directors that I will choose should have the fundamental characteristics such as vision and leadership, advocacy, stewardship and integrity, knowledge, personal commitment and diligence and collegiality. These personal traits cannot be compromised (Society of Corporate Secretaries & Governance Professionals, n.d.). Every director, regardless of the type of organization should have these qualities because these are qualities that can make or break an institution. It is essential too that the Director have a previous experience & expertise in the line of business where the company belongs because they are the ones who will set the strategic direction of the firm. The reputation and positions in communities of the Directors are also plus factors. References Melville, J. (n.d.). What Are the Pros & Cons of a Progressive Tax? eHow.com.
