To become a member, one should have an interest in photography, painting, graphic design, animation, fine arts, videography or editing among other forms of art. The organization does not charge any amount for membership and everyone who is a student at the university is allowed to join and be part of a team of art-oriented students.

American Indian week provides a chance for the American Indian students at the New Mexico State University who come from the twenty-two pueblos, tribes and nations of New Mexico as well as those who come from various places outside the state to share appreciate the different aspects of their culture with the community. It is used by the American Indian students at the University to communicate to the community of their presence and increase the richness and diversity of learning in the classrooms.

This cultural week includes a number of events at a different time of the day in different venues that start with an opening ceremony by a local tribe member after which a parade of nations take place. Native American dances are also performed during the week together with and arts and crafts expo that features Native American Art that gives the Native American artists a chance to display their art and sell it to those willing to purchase it.

There is also a Miss Native NMSU Pageant that is held during the American Indian Week which mainly focusses on judging the contestants based on their public speaking capability as well as the amount of knowledge they have of their culture. The event includes a question and answer portion where the contestants are asked questions which they will be expected to answer immediately so that their knowledge and appreciation of their culture can be assessed. The event also includes a cultural activity segment where the contestants are free to decide how they will display&nbsp.their knowledge of their culture where some tell traditional stories, dance or wear costumes that are significant to their tribes. This a good opportunity to learn about different cultures and I would encourage students as well as members of the community to attend the events that take place in that week.
