Write a 3 page essay on Musical imagery in the poem piano by DH Lawrence.

The poem “piano” centers its theme on relationship of a child with his parents in the past though now he is a grown up in this case. The speaker virtually experiences his childhood by recalling listening to a song from the mother while sitting. The melody of the piano clearly brings back the happenings of the past vividly using imagery. The relationship of the poet with the past is a romanticized life, which he cannot go back to as stated in the third stanza. We can say the author’s enjoyed being with his parents as the poem cherishes them, and the events that took place initially have a description of nostalgia in them. The poet is much aware of the present reality but sticks to remind himself of the past. There is no humor in the poem going by the statements DH Lawrence makes when recalling the past. From the description, the tone of the poem indicates that his heart weeps to belong to the past. In the poem, harmony existed in the family since they engaged in social activities together. The poet employs figurative language in his description to bring the clear picture of the past to the audience. This comes out clearly using metaphors and similes in the poem when he begins by stating that “softly in the dusk”. The tone comes out to be sinister towards the end in describing the real scenario, where it is in vain when the poet clamors for the past. The poem becomes insightful upon completion whereby the reader begins to question their own personal life by reflecting on the poets' past.
