QUESTION

Write a research report of 4-5 pages double-spaced discussing the current and new methods of accounting for leases

Assignment:

Write a research report of 4-5 pages double-spaced discussing the current and new methods of accounting for leases (standards issued in 2016). Discuss the history of lease accounting and purpose of the new standards, discuss the current method of accounting for leases, and discuss the new standards for accounting for leases. Be sure to discuss from the lessee and lessor perspectives. Use 3-5 sources and include a works cited page.

This assignment is to write a research report. The purpose of the report is to find information on a topic and organize the information in a way that provides a good review of the topic. It is not an essay, where the purpose of the writer might be to argue for a certain viewpoint or course of action related to an issue. This assignment is also not to create original scholarship or to add knowledge to the field. Rather, the report should summarize the topic, helping you to understand the related important concepts.

Writing Guidelines:

Introduction - In the introduction you will need to do the following things: present relevant background or contextual material, define terms or concepts when necessary, explain the focus of the paper and your specific purpose, and reveal your plan of organization.

Writing the Body - Use your outline as a flexible guide. Build your paper around points you want to make (i.e., don't let your sources organize your paper), integrate your sources into your discussion. Summarize, analyze, explain, and evaluate published work rather than merely reporting it.

Writing the Conclusion - In the conclusion you will need to do the following things:  summarize the body of your paper, use the end of your paper to explain the significance of points, and move from a detailed to a general level of consideration that returns the topic to the context provided by the introduction.
