QUESTION

Write a response in no more than 150 words to the following discussion.

We can see over the past few decades that there is a tremendous evolution in various sectors of the industry comprising of internet, health and corporate systems. Whereas all these systems rely on network communications, databases, software & Hardware.  A well designed information system infrastructure lies on a foundation that supports change and intention to adopt new technological initiatives.

One such powerful technological change can be seen in AT&T industry which is driven through digitization towards multimedia communications. Before 1990’s, AT&T provided largely voice & data on voice telecommunication services using chips consisting of components. Evolution of microelectronic chips in late 1980’s and software systems in early 1990’s led to an explosion in telecommunication services and forced AT&T to re-engineer itself. Start of 20’Th century saw the Company focusing on providing advanced voice & image services economically and took strides towards globalization. Lately, re-engineering extended beyond its own industry by mergers and acquisitions with different industries leading towards evolution in infrastructure of information systems. Quite simply it is evident that the AT&T had gone through multiple trends in their engineering either by capitalizing or utilizing the information systems infrastructure evolutionary trends.

Another interesting evolution can be quoted from Intelligent Transport Systems & Services (ITS) sector in Sweden’s National road database. ITS is a concept which depicts the usage of mobile information technology in improving transport services.  Initially Sweden’s transport database consisted of only brief road network information. They wanted to use ITS services but ITS requires infrastructure which contains standard information. So they had to standardize the location information through national land survey administration and store it in databases. It has to collaborate with service providers to get the GPS technology in place. It had to integrate other such suppliers to support mobility and standardization. All these changes were made possible only through the evolution of information systems. Important aspect of ITS and its applications is its nature of having a strong connection with information infrastructure in order to have it developed and used.

Currently, it has been to a stage where the information system infrastructure continue to evolve and which in turn paves the way for society re-engineering.
