This assignment focuses on David Foster Wallace’s Gourmet feature “Consider the Lobster,” which is an unusual profile about the fancy food indicated in the title.  Wallace eats lobster and meat; he thinks People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are too extreme in their views on the treatment of animals. Nonetheless, Wallace can’t seem to free himself from the discomfort that emerges when he contemplates enjoying lobster.

Write an essay that analyzes whether or not Wallace’s argument regarding ethics and food consumption is convincing.  It is imperative that you consistently and carefully analyze the various ways that he attempts to support his argument. Your response needs to address science, culinary preparation, ethics and parallels; in essence, your essay needs to draw upon the breadth of Wallace’s detailed essay.

4-5Pages, MLA form.3 or 4 paragraph, each body paragraph need a topic sentence and use one quote to support your argument.
