Topic: Geographical Information system

A Geographical Information system is a type of system that assembles spatially referenced data. It helps in storage and management of boundaries of states considering the information. The states can then be viewed on the surface of the earth by evaluation of boundaries. GIS, therefore, structures data and summarize data based on the characteristic of that data provided. GIS makes use of hardware and software to help in decision making (Church & Murray 3).

The world is represented in a digital environment. By defining the shape and the arrangement of objects on earth, locations are easily traced and established. To use a location referencing system, the earth representations are introduced. Various objects are represented on the earth surface, this is known as data modelling. Location science helps establish locations on maps by use of coordinates.  Spatial data is collected and then its geographical position is captured. Geographical information system provides means of collecting data, storage and analyze special data. GIS is a new technology that needs to be implemented in all sectors involved in location and site selection. GIS is required to identify best locations for an event or activity (Church & Murray 13).

By integrating location modelling and GIS, it makes it efficient to get better data, develop better approaches, better model representation and provides better location alternatives. Every activity has a specific location, and this location has a lot of effect on the function. Poor choice of location has consequences that include poor performance economically (Church & Murray 19,20).

The location science is guided by laws. The first law states that some locations are enhanced than others for a specific purpose. The second law says, spatial data can change site efficiency. When a multi-site pattern is to be used, sites should be selected simultaneously to save time. GIS, therefore, provides the most efficient way of locating a location for your business through advanced analysis (Church & Murray 8,9).

Market Potential Methodology

There are various methods of measuring the likelihood of demand for a product or service in a specific region. In the database, the market potential index and a few consumers are considered for every service or product. The market potential index helps in comparing the demand of a product or service ia region with that of the national level (Esri.com 1).

According to Esri (1), the market potential is calculated by combining 2015 Tapestry with Doublebase 2013 data. The Doublebase 2013 is a combination of four customer surveys carried out at a specific time. All respondents in a survey are recognized using Tapestry segment and assists in measuring the rate of commodity consumption.

The Tapestry market segment is used when calculating the local consumption of consumers for a service or product. The expected number of consumers can be calculated using the following formula:

= ∑67 n-1 (Countn x Consumption raten)

Local consumption rate is calculated as a ratio of expected number of consumers of a product or service. Then the market potential index is the ratio of local consumption rate from US consumption rate for service or product then multiplied by a hundred. Product and service demand can, therefore, be determined in those simple steps (Esri.com 1).

Esri and its development team has been operating with success for thirty five years. It has shown excellence in the field of market intelligence this is because it has a combination of individuals who are experts in various fields. The team has assisted in industry growth by establishing market place and market potentials for its clients (Esri.com 2).
