Hello Class,

            This week we are talking about Nongovernmental Organizations (NGO’s) which are groups who voluntarily donate their personal time towards conflict resolutions during economic, social and governmental aspects. NGO’s have a lot to do with the worlds people who are in need of help, fundraising and those who are unable to help themselves because of their disability or disabilities. A lot of NGO’s have projects to help their community in their region or in other countries who have reached out the organization for help or that the organization(s) have identified the individuals/community of their need of assistance. Many NGO’s are located overseas to help fight diseases or to even help plant trees as well.

            The NGO I would like to bring up would be the Center for Independent Living of People with Disability of Serbia. In this NGO, they help fight against people who do not have disabilities who also think that they are superior to those in need. This organizations is more so for fighting for Equal Opportunity as well as promoting and strengthening their resources and participation of people with disabilities by including the realization of civil and political rights, all in the same area such as communities, local and afar.

            Although there are many Nongovernmental Organizations the main point to most of the NGO’s are the ability to/need to recruit personnel throughout the world even through foreign, religious or economic to assist in rehabilitating relations in communities, local and non-local. Many organizations have also received funds from USAID, Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) such as grants and fundraising money. There is an instance where DIV had given a grant to use fingerprint technology to make sure that tuberculosis patients receive life-saving treatment abroad in India and Cambodia.

            Finally, I would also like to say that the NGO I had brought up earlier, Center for Independent Living of People With Disability of Serbia, are currently conducting projects that are backed by multiple countries as well as having partners associated with that specific project. For example, this NGO is being backed by Bosnia, Serbia and Montenegro, and the project partners are Bosnia, ACED, Serbia and even the association of paraplegics. This NGO is and should be considered a friend.

The NGO that I chose was the World Bank Organization. The mission of this organization is to fund the development of financial and technical products that help other countries utilize the knowledge gained from those products to make the challenges they face in their country easier. This organization aims to create sustainable economic growth, investing in health care, education, water, sanitation, and energy, and building resiliency to shocks and threats that can undo progression.

The World Bank Organization was founded in 1944 in order to establish to a new, post World War ll international economic system and began operations in June 1946. As developing countries started to rebuild their countries after the war, many investments including roads, dams, airports, sewage facilities, etc, they started to rack up a tremendous amount of debt that then lead into the debt crisis of the 1980s. During this time many of the developing countries were unable to pay back their to the banking institutions because of the efficiency decrease in the world economy due to the debt crisis of the early 1980s. As the global economy took a hit, interest rates from lenders skyrocketed, oil prices increased and the overall quality of life decreased.

Borrowing countries were required to make severe cuts in spending for health and education, eliminate price controls, and liberalize trade. This lead to most countries to reach higher levels of poverty, unemployment and external debt.

Though the World Bank continues to try to hold true to their mission of alleviating poverty and debt relief it has been much harder to accomplish this as the levels of assistance that these developing countries needed, and still need, are taking much longer to establish because the state of our global economy as a whole has gotten progressively worse, and is still recovering from the 1980's debt crisis.

In my opinion this organization should be considered a friend. The initial mission of this organization is exactly what is needed right now in our global economic system, but the major debt crisis set this organization back a lot and is attempting to play catch up right now. Once this organization has a chance to catch up and get ahead of this, I think that it will be able to eventually provide the help that it once achieved after World War ll.

Hello Everyone,

For this week the NGO or non-governmental organization that I have chosen to talk about is ASIRT or The Association for Safe International Travel. First I will tell you a little bit about what a NGO or non-governmental organization is and what they do, then I will tell you about the organization that I have chosen. Non-Governmental Organizations are non-profit and are organized on national, international, and local levels. They are motivated by people with a common interest, focused on things such as the rights of humans, health issues, and environmental issues and can bring issues up to the international leader level.

The NGO that I have chosen to speak about is called The Association for Safe international Travel or ASIRT. The organization was founded in 1995 after Aron Sorbel was killed in a bus crash in Turkey, That day Aron and 22 others lost their lives due to a lack of poor judgment and traffic laws being followed. The bus driver was speeding and driving in the wrong lane of traffic on a narrow curve. The roads had no guard rails and had been on the governments list of roads to be repaired. Aron would have graduated from medical school two weeks after the day he was killed in the accident.

 I chose this organization for a few reasons, the first is that I am a police officer and I personally have responded to calls of motor vehicle accidents due to stop lights being out or road signs not being fully visible, I know that these situations are a little bit different but I have seen the effects of improper road signs or road safety equipment. I have also been to other countries where there are no road signs or traffic lights and have seen the way they drive and it is insane. In Europe there are traffic signs and laws but still the motorist drive like there are none, so this organization can potentially bring awareness to these countries and warn them about the dangers their citizens are in due to the road conditions and lack of proper signage and traffic lights.
