Medical Assistants

 In America's busy healthcare system, one of the most undervalued and important positions are a medical assistant. Medical assistants are, in many aspects, the glue that unites medical offices and facilities. They are main doctor team members who assist with a range of administrative and clinical tasks, but yet we are so underrated. I recall when I was redeployed to help with covid 19 patients, The LPNs and the CNAs would reference the MAs, “they are only medical assistants they don’t know much”. I would get so confused due to the fact medical assistant have more schooling then the CNAs and the same amount of schooling as the LPNs. Medical assistant are able and have the qualifications to do the same work that the LPN and more than the CNA. Medical assistant are able to be state registered and certified. Medical assistants work closely with doctors, primarily in ambulatory or outpatient treatment services such as medical offices and clinics. Cross-trained medical assistants perform administrative and clinical roles, Clinical tasks. Medical assistant are required to  

  • use computer applications
  • Answering telephones
  • Welcoming patients
  • Updating and filing patient medical records
  • Coding and filling out insurance forms
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
  • Handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping
  • Taking medical histories
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients
  • Preparing patients for examination
  • Assisting the physician during exams
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
  • Performing basic laboratory tests
  • Instructing patients about medication and special diets
  • Preparing and administering medications as directed by a physician

This is more of a job description for a medical assistants than it is a philosophy statement.  This about what you think and is not about what you do. 

this is what I should have included  

I am registered in the of Michigan through Allied health 

I am certified in the state of michigan to do TB testing 

I am certified to do BAT (breath alcohol testing) testing for DOTs and for the state , in the state of michigan 

I am certified in drug screening urine and hair sampling . for the state of michigan 

I have my BLS from the american heart association. 

I am certified to assist with occupational medicine testing and physicals.  

I am certified to do x rays

I have an associate degree in medical science .

I have 20 years of work experience in the field.
