Krall and Lohse investigated the need for eating competence verified by low-income Pennsylvanians. They stated that, since people belonging to low socio-economic groups possessed disadvantaged life style with poor eating habits, they were in a dire need for eating competence “to improve diet quality”. They interviewed 70 low-income adults in Pennsylvania about food selection, nutritional interests, and eating experiences. They measured their eating competence through ecSatter inventory and found it to be very low. Krall and Lohse present another interesting research in 2010, focusing on eating competence in low-income women. They recruited and interviewed 25, 18-49 years old, females belonging to the low socio-economic class in Pennsylvania, and tested their cognitive patterns regarding eating behavior. They found that many items of ecSatter inventory needed to be modified because there were “problems of clarity and wording” in the model.
