The Social Science and World Language Division is deeply committed to building excellence and positively impacting our community by enhancing access to all. This faculty seeks to provide equitable access to learning opportunities, address inclusive ideas, perspectives of all students.
We acknowledge and hold central to our teaching practices our students’ diverse intersectionalities including race, gender, socioeconomic background, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, physical ability, ethnicity, country of origin, and intellectual perspective. To meet these diverse needs, the Social Science and World Language faculty strive to provide an inclusive environment where diversity is examined, protected, promoted, and celebrated.
Furthermore, we endeavor to develop a climate and culture where classrooms are a safe community of learners who are respected, reflected in the curriculum, universally supported, fairly assessed, and feel a strong sense of belonging.
As an anti-racist and ethnically unprejudiced community, Social Science and World Language educators commit to achieving racial justice by recognizing, addressing, and eradicating all forms of racism and ethnic oppression including procedural, ideological, covert, overt, and systemic racism.
Racism is any action, policy, or way of thinking -- cultural, personal, or institutional -- conscious or unconscious -- that attempts to marginalize people or suggest that one racial group is in any way inferior or superior to any other group. Anti-racism Is the active opposition to racism. An anti-racist is someone who promotes racial justice and challenges the use of racial differences to explain racial inequalities. An anti-racist supports policies, practices, and ideas leading to universal equities.
We stand committed to promoting racial justice and providing an environment that is anti-racist and empowering students towards the collective goal of being anti-racist.
