As we heard many times, a team work is the backbone of every business and non-business activity within organizations. Furthermore, the team results are greater than any individual score within working groups. Therefore, business organizations will continue to emphasize their future business activities by strongly relying on the team efforts. The purpose of this discussion board forum is to further investigate and explain the role of the team concerning quality and continual process improvements within business entities. Starbird and Cavanagh (2011) identified several team principles, including decision-making, utilized within businesses.

Decision Making

Flores-Fillol, Iranzo, and Mane (2017) emphasized that teamwork knowledge base can be found in 1972 by Alchian and Demsetz and in 1982 by Holmstrom, who elaborated on free-riding and competition within and among teams. Later, team work was related to a company’s productivity, faster problem solving, better interaction among teammates, balancing with new information technology (IT), cooperation between teams and individuals as well, effective employee communication and coordination, positive outcomes of working teams and individuals, and comparison between individual and teamwork. Furthermore, the authors identified some sources focusing on the allocation of decision-making rights among team members where delegation of decision rights is more likely to be complementary including multi-tasking, interaction, and collaboration between teammates and other groups within organizations. Lefley (2018) added that conflict among teammates within working groups is inevitable and it deteriorate the decision-making process. Therefore, it is essential to manage and control conflicts between  group members or among different teams in order to make best business decision and lead organizations towards further success. Starbird and Cavanagh (2011) highlighted that team decision-making process can be very difficult and painful, and regarding the speed and support during the process, there are three different scenarios that will be further explained in this discussion forum including consensus, majority, and dictator. In reality, working teams make their decision by shifting between these three concepts and eventually make decisions which are acceptable for business at those certain periods.

Consensus

Consensus decision-making is a team decision-making approach where teammates generate and support a final decision, which is beneficial for both the team members and the team with a distinctive outcome that focuses on accomplishing the team’s mutual and shared goal(s) (Pogson, 2016). Seeking consensus is needed within groups, but it takes lots of time and effort of all individuals involved in the process. Wu and Xu (2016) emphasized that consensus is extensively incorporated in team decision-making practices in which different people with different perspectives, attitudes, motivations, and personalities engage to reach a collective agreement on further business actions. In addition, consensus can become an issue and firms have to accept the majority decision or to apply the dictator style when there is not a sufficient time to go through this lengthily process.

Majority

The aspect of majority opinion in decision-making is most common business approach within organizations nowadays. Yusoff, Merigó,  Ceballos, and Peláez (2018) agreed that it is very challenging to reach a unanimous decision when making decision regarding future business endeavors in firms due to different perspectives of the decision makers. In addition, it is even harder to get a consensus when dealing with a group of experts. Therefore, majority agreement is most adequate business model within companies in today’s global economy.

Dictator

Starbird and Cavanagh (2011) emphasized that dictators can make decisions quickly, but they need to be skilled and experienced in order to make appropriate and successful decisions in business firms. Dictators have little or no support from teammates. Wang and  Jap (2017) argued that powerful global firms, including multinational companies (MNCs), may act as dictators in global economy due to their dominant and influent power over other companies which are forced to cooperate rather that compete nowadays.
