                                        Project One: Language Conflict

So tar this quarter,we've looked at strategies for using language effectively in both life and writing. You've read the work of several scholars who point out both the strengths and pitfalls of particular

strategies for communicating your ideas to others. For this essay, your job will be to explain a conflict that you are aware of that centers around language(hint:almost all conflict centers around language )

and explore where the breakdown occurs and the consequences. To get started you can ask yourselt the following questions:Did the speaker/author make bad rhetorical choices? Was the speaker imagining something that they didn't do a good enough job of asking the audience to imagine? Was the distance between the speaker and the audience too far?Did the author anticipate objections of a clearly defined audience?(These are examples to get you thinking-don't limit yourself to these ideas.)

Your job is not simply to report what went wrong, but rather to explore, analyze and explain it,and finally be able to make an arguable claim about the consequences. You should be prepared to explain

and give examples and cite at least two authors that we've read so far in class. You may use any other research that you would like to,but you must at very least cite from two of our authors.
