Aligning Experience and Theory

As noted in the introduction, all instructional designers are influenced by foundational theories. In this assignment, you will draw parallels between some of your own learning experiences and the learning theories that may have informed the design of those experiences.

• In a single sentence and using your own words, paraphrase the definition of theory.
• Then, using examples from your own learning experiences, describe the key features and distinctions among behaviorist, cognitive, constructivist, and social learning theories.
• Share details from each experience that illustrate why you associated that experience with that theory. Remember that you can use examples from both educational and industry settings.
• Use headings to distinguish where in the essay each theory/experience is discussed. Be sure that you have an introduction with a thesis statement and a conclusion that summarizes your main points. You can learn more about APA-formatted headings in the Ashford Writing Center.

The paper should be formatted according to APA style and be at least three but no more than five pages, not including the title and reference pages. Cite at least one scholarly reference in addition to the text for each learning theory.
