Introduction: Using DSS involves interactive analytical modeling processing and information systems can support a variety of management decision-making levels and decisions. These levels include strategic, tactical, and operational decision making as they apply to three types of decision structures (structured, semistructured, and unstructured).

Assignment:

·         Analyze and describe the tools and technologies for developing rule-based DSS

·         Compare and contrast which analytical modeling process is more appropriately used than another in developing rule-based DSS.

Compare various ways expert systems can be used in business decision-making situations.

Introduction: Almost everything we do today involves some type of expert system; a simple and common example is the diagnostic system that mechanics use to diagnose problems with a vehicle. Most modern mechanics are left in the dark without a computer system to take them through the diagnostic case and at the end report the status of the vehicle.

The importance of an expert system cannot be overemphasized; an expert system can assist in decision making, diagnosing and troubleshooting a problem, assisting in design and configuration. Given existing constraints, it can also assist in making selections and classifications, processing, monitoring, and controlling the system.

Assignment: Prepare a response to the following discussion topic:

·         Compare various ways expert systems can be used in business decision-making situations.

·         Demonstrated through examples how expert systems are used in making decisions in business. Provided specific examples from research to illustrate the value of expert systems in making business decisions.
