Chapter 1 discusses American Political culture and the core values of liberty (personal and economic freedom), equality (of opportunity and political), and democracy (representative).  These values are agreed upon by a large majority of Americans and have been incorporated into our system of government, as discussed in chapter 2.  However, there is not unanimous agreement about these values and how they apply to government, laws, and society.  

Can you think of one current issue where American culture or government is falling short of these ideals?  For example, one might argue that social media shutting a US citizen out of their account is a violation of free speech and personal liberty or passing a law that requires photo identification to vote denies political quality.  Now you think of an issue and put it in a discussion post.  You are encouraged to post links to relevant news articles or other research in your post.
