In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:

Scenario

Crystal Creek is a long-term care facility in Colorado that provides rehabilitative, restorative, and ongoing skilled nursing care to patients in need of assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, eating, and walking. The facility was recently acquired by a large for-profit healthcare system. Crystal Creek has an administrative team of senior-level managers who establish healthcare standards, make strategic policy decisions, and oversee personnel in support of the facility’s vision for long-term care.

You have recently been promoted to healthcare manager at Crystal Creek, and the administrative team has asked you to determine whether or not the current informatics system, called Health Insights, should be upgraded to the newer, more expensive version, as it would impact the facility’s budget needs for the quarter. You need to determine how the upgrade would improve healthcare delivery while maintaining regulatory compliance so that you can make an evidenced-based request for funds to the Crystal Creek administrative team.

Crystal Creek is comprised of the following departments:

• Clinical staff (LPN, RN, LVN, PT, and aides)
• Activities staff
• Pharmacy
• Marketing and sales
• Medical office
• Administration
• Billing
• Human resources

Directions

For this project, you will develop a request for funds to the Crystal Creek administrative team that clearly explains how a new informatics system could improve healthcare delivery and organizational outcomes.

In your request, you must address the following:

• Develop a brief introduction that identifies:
  • The intended audience
  • The purpose of an informatics system in a healthcare organization
  • Departments within Crystal Creek that use the informatics system, using the departmental list (4 to 6 departments is recommended)
  • A general overview of features of Crystal Creek’s current informatics system (version 1.0) with the upgraded features available (version 2.0), using the Informatics System Version Comparison Sheet
• For each department identified in your introduction, explain:
  • How the department uses informatics systems in its role at Crystal Creek
  • How the limitations of version 1.0 of the informatics system may negatively impact the department’s work
  • How the upgraded 2.0 version of the informatics system would benefit the department’s work
• Explain how the upgrade to version 2.0 would benefit organizational outcomes, such as:
  • Quality improvement
  • Positive patient experiences
  • Patient care
• Explain the need for confidential and secure interdepartmental communication within an informatics system and how the upgrade to version 2.0 would ensure compliance with confidentiality and security regulations for technology in healthcare
