They develop and maintain relations and friendships over the virtual world. This brings in a negative impact on the social relationships of the individual. Though Internet makes communication easier it makes the life of the individual lonelier. People loose the personal touch in the social relationships. Studies have shown that heavy addiction to television and Internet leads to the decline of social and local knowledge and interest of the individual. Charles Horton Cooley once said, “The social self is simply an idea, or system of ideas, drawn from the communicative life, that the mind cherishes as its own.”(Cooley) Different people have different perceptions about socializing. Some feel socializing over the Internet, the telephone is good enough while some feel that these means are not the real ways of socializing. Socializing requires personal and face-to-face interactions between individuals to understand and empathize with each other’s life, which is completely missing in the technological aided methods of socializing. The technology has bought a sea change in the way we live, it has changed the way we interact and socialize with others.
