The 11 September attack prompted the Bush government to retaliate by calling a war against terror. There was Afghanistan as the US chased Osama bin Laden, the Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. There was war in Iraq, prompted by a suspicion of weapons of mass destruction. And their other activities around the globe, in support of the anti-terrorism stand that was fostered by the US and its allies as an aftermath of the world trade center and pentagon attacks. But are all these really justified? As this write up moves along, it will be shown that a lot had been placed at stake for this so-called just war, but the end result only shows the absence of justice.

First, consider the financial standpoint. A congressional research service report showed that the US ‘Congress has approved a total of $1.283 trillion for military operations, base security, reconstruction, foreign aid, embassy costs, and veterans’ health care for the three operations initiated since the 9/11 attacks’ (Belasco). In the light of the financial crisis the world is facing today and the US in particular, wouldn’t an average American taxpayer entertain second thoughts on the logic of the spending allocated by the Congress in all these war activities? Does the title of a global superhero more important than being a caring government? Is international pride worth more than a stable economy at home? Is there justice when the unemployment rate is gaining? This war against terror is only adding into the burden carried by every citizen while in the middle of a crisis and no justice can be derived from this.

Shock and disbelief were written on the face of many while witnessing the attack on the World Trade Center on 11 September 2001. Unthinkable, barbarous and verily condemnable the event was in the eyes of the many hence the Bush Administration declared war against all terrorists. Retaliation or revenge may have been on the minds of the many, thus the chase on the terrorists begun.
