After the trial, Madam Justice Holly Beard of the Manitoba Court of Queens Bench ruled that Kyle Unger who has been in jail for more than 13 years will be released because prosecutors had no evidence against him and that Unger was wrongfully convicted for the rape and murder of Brigitte Grenier at a rock concert in Winnipeg. Grenier was 16 when she was killed (Sorensen, 2009).
Kyle Unger’s previous conviction which was reversed by the court was based on a confession to an undercover police known only as Mr. Big where the officers promised a reward of money if the suspect “will help them out”. Unger then explained that he had done the confession because he was “young, naïve and desperate of money” (CBC News, 2009).
