Create a 8 pages page paper that discusses cognitive and social characteristics of selected creative persons. The disciplines of cognitive and personality psychologies are fields that emphasize the uniqueness of an individual in terms of behavior and ideas. While the core essence of a creative person is to think of unique ideas and engage in unique behavior, personality psychology studies what makes such gifted people unique and possess such individual differences from the rest of the population. As such, both disciplines are essential in studying a gifted person by focusing on the stability and consistency of people, with a view of determining the presence or absence of uniqueness. It is thus normal that the field of personality psychology undertakes to focus its attention on a section of the population whose salient traits are their uniqueness and individuality. Such a population is termed as creative people (Subotnik, & Arnold, 1994).
The theoretical perspective that has been used by psychological researchers in assessing the construct of a creative person differs among physiologists. Some of the psychologists advocate for a person-centered approach to creativity while others analyze creative persons based on personal attributes they possess, such as personality and intelligence (Guilford, 1950). Other researchers emphasize a clinical or abnormal approach to creativity, which means that creativity is analyzed by studying the unusual personality processes, seen as the causes of the personality creative person. Such psychologists take a process-centered approach that studies creativity in reference to a person’s thought processes such as problem-solving. Other psychologists focus on the environment as the source of creativity.
It is therefore imperative to consider the psychoanalytical, environmental, social, humanistic, personality and cognitive psychologies of creativity. This will in turn help in exploring the neurobiology of creativity (Ng, 2003). All the methods of studying creativity approach the topic differently.
