RSA SecurID data breach in 2011 was a combination of innocent and careless/ negligent actions. They fell victim to targeted phishing attack that used a flash object that was embedded into a Excel file. Once the file was opened it planted a back-door malware in the network. This attack cost RSA $66 million in direct and attributable costs. Now add that to the remediating costs of their SecurID tokens which is estimated to be 40 million tokens @ $100 dollars a token brings the real cost of the breach to over $4 billion dollars (Secure, 2011). RSA network security company is a worldwide organization that uses public-key cryptosystem used to secure data in transmission.
