End of Course Reflection Paper
Reflection is a key factor for professional development, as it grants the Non-Commission Officer space to consider the impact of recent events and how they might impact future ones. Having just completed coursework, Non-Commission Officers are in a unique transition, affording them the opportunity to consider personal and professional growth attained (or still needed) and how to apply experiences to home-station leadership positions.
Assignment: Students will draft a reflection paper that reviews:
- The impact of their recent coursework on their leadership philosophy.
- How have the coursework, instruction, or peer interactions changed your priority as a leader?
- What situation would you tackle differently or plan to address when you take your next assignment?
Instructions: Use Microsoft word, first person narrative, 500-600 words paper, double-spaced, Times Roman font type, 12-pt font size, 1-inch margins, APA format, include title page, page number, introduction, headlines for the following points that needs to be covered in the paper, conclusion, in-text citation, and reference page.
Tips:
- Keep your prior leadership philosophy in mind. Because any new ideas that you come up with will need to refer-back to it.
- Some areas of professional development remain remarkably consistent (Such as attention to value like âintegrityâ). However, gaining experience and perspective might change how a leader would address the value in new circumstances.
- Many good reflections begin by considering âif I had only known ⦠before I wouldnât have done --- â. Before writing the reflection, give some thoughts about what insights youâve gained might change prior actions. Faced with a similar situation in the future, what might you do differently?
